Brighton Occupational Therapists Annual Conference
College of Occupational Therapists Annual Conference, Brighton 2010 Review
With an NHS 18 week target and the budget challenges the public sector is facing it’s vitally important to get the right product first time for users. Good postural management using innovative products help improve clinical outcomes resulting in fewer hospital admissions and better health management for those with long term conditions.
Specialised Orthotic Services, known as SOS, designs and manufactures special seating equipment for adults and children and has a commitment to provide its products within four weeks from commissioning to delivery. This target can only be met because it works with OTs to understand demands, employs only specially-trained clinical managers who help assess the users’ needs and designs and manufactures bespoke equipment at its Tutbury, Staffordshire site.
Because of this way of working and the leadership of MD Gordon McQuilton MBE, SOS products also benefit the user. Correct postural management means fewer digestive and breathing problems, chest infections and other conditions such as loss of joint range.
The products also help promote positive mental health with designs that are less like hospital equipment and more like products found in most homes. Clients can choose the fabrics and colours so each product is unique. SOS’ children’s product the ‘P’ Pod, which looks like a beanbag, is a perfect example.
SOS prides itself on exceeding a 90% success rate for the clients it’s able to help.
At this years Brighton Conference SOS had a wonderful experience, we exhibited a range of products and made many contacts. If you would like us to come along and demonstrate our range, or have a client assessed for any specialised seating please contact us on the number below.
