'Equipoise' Straddle Seat

The Equipoise Straddle Seat from SOS introduces an alternative approach to functional seating for the handicapped child.

Conventional seating adopts a basic 90 / 90 sitting posture which has basic intrinsic disadvantages for the severely disable child when working to develop effective sitting balance.

The Equipoise Straddle Seat from SOS uses a sitting posture based on the position adopted when riding a horse which places the child in an enhanced position of balance to minimise the effect of sitting with a poor Centre of Gravity (C of G) common in conventional sitting posture.

Children with poor sitting balance can achieve a more stable position on the Equipoise due to the reduced flexion in the posture which enables the child to sit with a better degree of balance and so allowing improved functional balance and movement.

The Equipoise comes with all the support pads required and has the option to work with it’s own tray or with static work tables, desks.

The High – Low frame of the Equipoise provides real flexibility during use allowing positioning at various heights to suit differing functional tasks.

The Equipoise will allow children with very low levels of sitting ability the opportunity to work on postural development from a very young age.
